11th Annual Living Legends Awards
Beverly Hills, CA. John Travolta emceed the 11th Annual Living Legends of Aviation awards, also known as the Academy Awards of Aviation, to benefit Kiddie Hawk Air Academy. Aviation pioneers, astronauts, pilots, innovators and movie stars stepped onto the Beverly Hilton's red carpet amid a special exhibition of a dozen original paintings by ASAA artists Michelle Rouch and Mimi Stuart.
Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and philanthropist Steven F. Udvar-Hazy joined the parade of Living Legends who autographed Rouch's tribute to EAA founder Paul Poberezny, titled "Icon of Aviation," for the charity auction. An authentic cabochon cut ruby sparkled in the painting's P-51 port wing, symbolizing the Colonel's passion for flight.
Guests admired Rouch's Bob Hoover painting, her Astronaut series and Stuart's larger than life expressionist portraits of Amelia Earhart and Harrison Ford.
Organizers presented Stuart's 7-foot tall portrait of John Travolta to the actor and his wife Kelly Preston. The expressionist painting is being flown to their Tampa home. The entire art exhibition reappeared at the Stardust Rooftop for the Living Legends afterglow until the wee hours of the night.
